This kit will help you make sure you get the wiring correct. For older Pontiacs, the vehicle speed sensor can be a major obstacle if you want to know how fast you are going. Decide where the toggle switch will be located within the vehicle, and install it. Press the transmission pan back onto the transmission and hand-tighten the bolts that secure the pan to the transmission.
The following drawing shows the geometry for the cable connection to the carb. Then connect to the new single-pin connector at the transmission arrow, photo C. This is why it is called a cancel switch, descargar pelicula the dating it cancels power when the pedal is pressed.
TCI R / R4 Universal Lockup Wiring Kit
You will have to use the calibration button that came with your speedo. After this picture I show you examples of how I modified the bell crank to get these angles and distances. Just so you will know, most of the time the brake cancel switch is also a cancel switch for the cruise control, if you have cruise.
700R4 Speedometer Gear
There is a series of dip switches on the decoder board, and after a few simple calculations, such as the tire diameter and rear-end gearing, you set the internal calibration. There is no difference in the way it locks. So what happens is, it locks and unlocks, for over and over again. The advent of four-speed overdrive units with advanced electronic controls and lock-up torque converters has been a bonanza for the Pontiac hobbyist who desires a newer gearbox.
Check this page out for details. This switch will allow current flow, only when it is depressed. If they aren't right it is going to be hard to get the transmission to shift right under all load combinations and you sooner or later you will be fixing the transmission. Put on safety glasses and place a large drain pan under the transmission pan. On another Q-Jet I cut the bell crank on the throttle shaft above an existing mounting hole and below the center line of the shaft.
- Are you are doing this mod for one of the reasons I did, to get rid of some of the wiring and vacuum hoses that came on our trucks.
- The brake pedal arm makes contact with the switch when it is all the way out.
- If you can't find a plug, you can either use some slim female spade connectors or solder the wires on.
- When retrofitted into early muscle cars, these trannys require the pressure switch to be changed and a few wires rerouted.
- This is one of the reasons I did this.
Attach the constant side of the toggle switch. Now again, with so many different variations of these things, you may also have a single wire solenoid. This ensures that the driven gear properly engages the drive gear.
700r4 Wiring Hook Up
- Never attempt to drive a vehicle with low transmission fluid.
- This red wire will also require a female spade connector.
- Disconnect the negative and positive terminals of the battery.
- On one of the Q-jets I used there was a mounting hole at the right radius from the throttle shaft center line, but not at the right angle.
Much interested in this myself. It was a mechanical drive. If the switch is not changed and wired properly, the converter will not lock up in fourth gear and possible trans and converter damage may occur, not counting your gas mileage will suffer. You need the low-vac switch so the converter will unlock in low vacuum situations, such as going up hill and heavy throttle.
Loosen the transmission pan bolts four or five turns each, and gently pry down on the edge of the transmission pan, being careful to prevent any bending or warping. It only took a few minutes to do this on both of the carbs and needs to be done to make sure you don't ruin your transmission. The cancel switch is mounted on a bracket under the dash. If you do this mod, you change to the new pressure switch, depending on which type of solenoid you have, who is and leave the other switches in the valve body.
It only had one pressure switch. These are slim so this is the reason I recommend to use a junkyard donor for the plug black arrow, dating photo D. Take the time to set it up properly and it will last a long time. Peek under a hot rod today and it's not uncommon to find an automatic overdrive resting between the frame rails. This is a great transmission.
R4 with Electric Speedo
The part you're after is called a speedometer driven gear sleeve. Once that is done, both the odometer and speedometer will read accurately, regardless of other modifications you make to the drivetrain. Through a circuit board, called a decoder, it analyzes it and then uses the calculated data to turn a small electric motor internal to the box that spins the speedometer cable. You see the two terminals that you need to hook to.
Just offering some info to save some headaches. If you get a new sleeve, make sure it has a seal already in it. This will kill them in hurry. You need to make sure that when the brake pedal is all the way out there is power going through, press the pedal and the power is interrupted. Next is a wiring diagram by Peter Row that looks good to me.
Do you have to change the tail shaft housing too? Before you change any wiring, find the solenoid arrow, photo A and the two wires connected to it. Should be obvious by looking at it -. These photos were taken from a Chevy High Performance magazine article, not by me, well except for the last one, photo D, which I did take. Again, just to let everyone know.
They look different so it is confusing to some. The photos in the article are of a R tranny. You should be able to find a driven gear housing at your local wrecking yard.
Warnings Never turn on the torque converter lock-up at slow speeds, as this may damage your vehicle. When installing the speedo gear and housing, how do I get the speedo gear housing to seat all the way without breaking anything as far as the gears? They are to the best of my knowledge.
The Cable X box comes equipped with a inch-long speedometer cable, so the box needs to be mounted within that distance from the instrument cluster. Changing the switch and wiring can be done in the car without a problem. One area of the Pontiac drivetrain that has advanced dramatically from yesteryear is the automatic transmission. If you don't use the engine ported vacuum switch then the wire from terminal D should be grounded at all times.
